There may be singlet for wrestling available in the market today but you can actually make one on your own at home. It is not a really tough thing to do. However, you need to have careful forethought before you make it. In terms of the cost of materials necessary for the creation of this garment, you will spend an amount of money that is roughly equivalent to the price of a singlet sold at many different stores. Nonetheless, if you have become an expert of fabricating this product at home, you will be much likely to save significant amounts of money on it.
The first thing you need to do is have bike shorts and an exercise shirt. Tuck the exercise shirt in and mark a line around the shirt on the area where it meets the shorts above the waist. If the exercise shirt is long- sleeved, mark a line around the arm area to guide you in removing or cutting off such long sleeves. Next, measure around 3 inches below the underarm and around 2 inches from the edge of the shoulder. To increase the diameter of the neck, measure an arc or half a circle down from your collarbone to your chest’s midpoint. Measure another larger half circle starting from your collarbone down to around 1/3 of the way on your back. You can make use of a real tank top for your reference.
Take off the exercise shirt and cut it off around one and a half inches from the line marking at the waist. With the use of a sewing machine, attach the exercise shirt’s bottom to the bike shorts’ top. Leave around a half inch of slack from the thread of both shirt and shorts. Anyway, you can trim this slack off right after the completion of the sewing process. If not a tank top, you need to cut off the neckline and sleeves of the exercise shirt. Use the line marking you have made as your guide for cutting it off. If you want a clean look for your wrestling singlet, fold slightly inward the frayed edges and run stitches on it.
There are also singlet pieces available in the market today. These garments can be purchased form stores at very reasonably low prices. These products are tailored to give comfort and protection to the wearers. They are basically one- piece, colored and tight- fitting uniform primarily used in amateur wrestling. They are typically made out of different materials such as nylon, spandex or lycra. The purpose of its tight fit is that it prevents a wrestler from grasping the uniform of the opponent as this is not the nature of wrestling. In wrestling, it is illegal to grasp the clothing of an opponent unlike judo. The design also permits the referee to clearly see the body of each wrestler when awarding a pin or points.
Professional wrestlers also make use of singlet. However, there are a few differences between the style of the singlet for professional wrestlers and that for amateur wrestlers. In the last 20 years, the use of singlet amongst professional wrestlers has declined. This had happened when another style of wrestling garment got introduced. It is known as the double of which the design is intended to cover more of the torso. For rehearsal or even actual matches, wrestlers wear sanitary shorts over wrestling singlet which can function as somewhat modesty covering sensitive part of the wearers. It is thus important for a piece of singlet to be functional and comfortable for a wrestler who wears it.
